This is a beautifully written book forged from the personal experience of a boy’s journey with leg braces – from his early childhood to becoming a young adult – all explained through the lens of his mother. This book serves as a hopeful and instructional guide for all children who may necessitate leg braces. “Step by Step” is educational, informative, supportive, heartfelt and honest. It will serve as an excellent resource for orthotists, physical therapists, physiatrists, orthopedists, child life specialists, podiatrists, pediatricians, mental health counselors and all children and families who will be on the journey of wearing any orthopedic device. As a psychologist, I know that this book will unequivocally help children who are experiencing their own version of “feeling different.” The author shares her child’s story to model for others what is possible, while transparently sharing the struggles encountered, and then adjustments made along the way. She shares that braces do not limit you and that anything is possible, when you take things “Step by Step.”
